The fourth season of HBO’s critically acclaimed The Wire picks up after the explosive events the conclusion to the third season, as cop Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West) finds himself patroling the streets of Baltimore and seemingly out of the loop (McNulty is relegated to more of a supporting player in these episodes than ever before) as this season focuses on the coming election between Mayor Royce (Glynn Turman) and Tommy Carcetti (Aidan Gillen), and a group of young corner kids getting ready to go serve to school. What makes this season of The Wire so surprisingly compelling isn’t the drama between the cops and the crooks like we’ve seen before, but what this group of young corner boys (Maestro Harrell, Julito McCullum, Tristan Wilds) experience and the choices they develop, which not only conclude their acquire lives, but inexplicably carry out the lives of everyone else fervent as well. In the meantime, novel kingpin Marlo (Jamie Hector) makes even more of an impact as the cops try to nail him, Herc (Domenick Lombardozzi) finally gets his stripes, Prez (Jim True-Frost) becomes a teacher, and Omar (Michael K. Williams) gets in over his head when he goes toe to toe with Marlo. By the kill of season four, it is apparent that the demolish is come, and that McNulty and his crew are sitting on a powder keg that will be as explosive as anything that has ever been seen on HBO. Undoubtedly one of the finest and most realistic TV dramas ever crafted, The Wire is once again spectacular entertainment.

The account so far… (Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know any detail of what happens in this Season of the point to) .

On street level, Stringer Bell is tedious, Avon Barksdale is serve leisurely bars and the wintry and wilful Marlo Stansfield (played by Jamie Hector) looks like he’s squaring up to be crowned king. Preston “Bodie” Broadus (played by JD Williams) is the only proper Barksdale soldier unruffled holding it down but finds it’s a whole recent game with a whole modern site of rules. Meanwhile, the drug dealers’ nightmare that is Omar (played by Michael K Williams) has a original protégé in tow and he’s as busy as ever. The scene when he and Marlo finally reach face to face is pure TV heaven.

On law level, political involvement in the Major Crimes Unit sends its best personnel off in all different directions: Lieutenant Daniels (played by Lance Reddick) gets promoted out, Detectives Kima Greggs (played by Sonja Sohn) and Lester Freamon (played by Clarke Peters) are squeezed out - and help to Homicide - and Detective Jimmy McNulty (played by Dominic West) realises he’s running the risk of losing his soul and goes wait on on patrol. He also gives up the booze and tries to become a family man. The slay result of all this is that no one is really up on the wire and by the time the improbable number of bodies being stacked up in vacant houses by Marlo’s two lieutenants Chris and Snoop (played by Gbenga Akinnagbe and Felicia Pearson) arrive to light, there are so many of them, the task of solving the crimes seem exquisite grand unsurmountable to the troubled law enforcement personnel.

On City Hall level, Councilman Tommy Carcetti (played by Aiden Gillen) does the unimaginable and wins the mayoral elections in Baltimore but finds it might be the beginning of his battles rather than the kill.

And if all that were not enough, in the middle school system, the ‘No Child Left Behind’ programme is shown up for what it really is, while 8th graders - some, like Michael (played by Tristan Wilds) and Dukie (played by Jermaine Hawkins) with drug addicted parents; some, like Namond Brice (played by Julito McCullum) with drug dealing parents - dad Wee-Bey (played by Hassan Johnson) is in prison and mother De’Londa (played by Sandi McCree) wants her tiny boy to grow up and be unbiased like his daddy - and tragically, some with no parents at all - Randy (played by Maestro Harrell) is in foster care and Sherrod (played by Rashad Orange) is taken under glide by Bubbles (played by Andre Royo) of all people - are left to their possess devices and to the lure of the streets. Some of the younger kids like the streetwise and smart-mouthed Kenard (played by Thuliso Dingwall) and the car-stealing, joy-riding Donut, so minute he can barely glance over the steering wheels of the cars he jacks (played by Nathan Corbett), we don’t secure to sight their parents at all. Ever.

And this is not even the half of it. The scene is thus area for the fourth season of this incredibly bellow HBO series and on many levels, primarily due to the focus of school-age children, it might expose to be the most explosive season of all. With its awesome ensemble cast, “The Wire” continues to arrangement the highest praise from the most unexpected of quarters all over the world. Don’t miss this. And don’t let the complex storylines, unglamorous settings or gritty (and often violent) scenes and colourful language build you off. It’s like watching loyal life or reading a recent. In the loyal world, situations do not usually acquire resolved within 50 minutes, honest as they don’t net tied up neatly within a chapter of a book. It was appointment TV for me on the FX channel earlier this year and I so cannot wait for the DVD. This is without a doubt, the best thing on TV.

PS. I’ve deliberately refrained from using the B word because I’ve near to understand that it upsets clear people and I totally understand why.

We could be missing the point though, with the utmost respect. The stories that are being told here - and they are unprejudiced stories by the way; “The Wire” is not a documentary series or even a docudrama - could be told from Washington DC, Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Detroit or any major US city and quiet be fair as authentic, and honest as believable. I don’t possess The Wire is a statement about a particular city. I deem the creators and writers have unbiased gone with the area they know - and care for, it has to be said.

I don’t feel it’s a statement about America either, particularly. Drug addiction, drug wars (the so-called wars being fought against drugs and the wars the drug dealers are contantly fighting amongst themselves), the proliferation of guns in our communities, political corruption and, (as is highlighted in this particular season), deficient child educational systems in particular and the design children are collectively being failed by the very society that is supposed to protect and nurture them in general, are all evident all over the world if we know where to search for.

IMO, these are stories about human nature and the different ways in which man’s actions affect the world we live in. That’s what makes “The Wire” so sharp.

I unbiased purchased this disk and have browsed through the shortish movies in short order….they are fun, obviously b westerns. The prints are noteworthy better than I anticipated and worthy cleaner than the normal PD ripoffs we are weak to for this era. Its mountainous to view a very young John Wayne, when his shoulders were large and his waist narrow….and with his occupy hair!

Waynes acting isn’t awful at all..and as i said..the prints are NOT restored by any means but they at least notice to be pulled from the best available negative and not dubbed from leisurely night tv. I’m looking forward to the other “Three-fer” WB unprejudiced place on on Wayne as well as the two on Randolph Scott (although his are color films from the 50’s so the production values and anecdote lines should be a immense jump above this 30’s era B Westerns….which by the intention I could peer over and over…while “The Departed” which I caught at the theatres a couple weeks ago…Once was enough.

Wayne made six unlit & white B-Western films for Warner Brothers during the early-thirties the three on present here are all from 1933. They descend midway between THE Vast Scoot (1929) and STAGECOACH (1938) . This period that could well be called his apprenticeship years, they were also highly prolific years in fact Wayne appeared in eleven films during 1933.

THE TELEGRAPH Whisk (55 minutes) John Trent (Wayne) is the buckskinned-army scout who volunteers to effect connecting the telegraph wires across the plains. In the scheme are detestable trader Gus Lynch (Albert J Smith) who stirs up Indian chief High Wolf (Yakima Canutt) to lead a revolt. Corporal Tippy (Frank McHugh) and Alice Keller (Marceline Day) line up with Trent, who is also ably assisted by “Miracle Horse” Duke who incidentally appears in all three movies. Grand of the action footage comes from the 1926 peaceful western RED RAIDERS starring Ken Maynard. For the one and only time in his career Wayne wears a pair of pistols with buts facing forward in the style of “Wild Bill” Elliott.

SOMEWHERE IN SONORA (57 minutes) In Twin Forks John Bishop (Wayne) is falsely accused of cheating in a stagecoach bustle. Bob Leadly (Henry B. Walthalt) vows to definite Bishop, in return learning that young Bart Leadly (Paul Fix) has fallen in with the distinguished Monte Dim (J. P. Mcgowan) Brotherhood of Death gang and are holed up over the Mexican border somewhere South of Sonora. Bishop sets out on Duke with two sidekicks to rescue Bart. Remarkable employ is made of stock-footage from the 1927 restful western of the same name starring Ken Maynard and his horse Tarzan. This film was the first of many that renowned western stalwart Paul Fix would appear with John Wayne

THE MAN FROM MONTEREY (57 minutes) In 1848 US army Captain John Holmes (Wayne) is sent from Monterey, California on a mission to convince rich land owner Don Jose Castanares (Lafe McKee) to register his land or else it will drop into the public domain. Unbeknown to Castanares his so called friend Don Pablo Gonzales (Francis Ford) and his son Don Luis Gonzales (Donald Reed) are trying to grab the land from him. Further complicating the grunt is Castanares daughter Dolores (Ruth Hall) who is being pressurised into marrying Don Luis. The young Captain Holmes sets out to solve both problems. Once again mute Ken Maynard stock-footage is aged throughout. The above Francis Ford was the elder brother of John Ford who would latter mutter Wayne over many years in most if not all of his best work.

In 1933 the talkies were in their infancy and great of the acting appears a bit stilted at times by today’s standards, but they are if you include the stock footage 75 to 80 years musty and should be judged as such! Young John Wayne acquits himself elegant well in all three, except for the unpleasant sword fighting sequence in the last film. The quality of transfer to DVD is generally very respectable with unprejudiced the unusual minor glitch. All together an bright observe at three likable early John Wayne quickie-Westerns.

There are so many versions of this beloved legend of Dickens. It is hard not to confuse one from another, so let me launch with the facts. This BBC TV series were made in 1981, and hurry as long as about 300 minutes. It stars Gerry Sandquist as adult Pip, Sarah-Jane Varley as grown-up Estella (now the feeble is no more, and the latter seems retired) .

The current tale is a very distinguished one, which is about a boy Pip whose worship for Estella changes his life forever, so I won’t explain it here. The series here actually cloak the account very faithfully, and even the minor characters are not neglected. There are cramped changes here and there, but they are minor ones compared with previous filmed versions. So, you gape not only Herbert Pocket but his terrible father and mother (whose only trouble is the aristocratic families) . This means you utilize so many time to near the conclusion, and you should eye it at two sittings. And you will look Mr. Wopstle’s poor Hamlet.

About many actors that join in the production; some are pleasant, some not, others so-so (like many standard BBC products), but most memorable is Miss Havisham played by Joan Hickson (better known as Miss Marple in the same BBC series), and Jaggers by Derek Francis. In fact, these Jaggers and Wemmick (by Colin Jeavons) are the most convincing in the whole history of the adaptaions of “Huge Expectations.” And you can gawk Patsy Kensit as young Estella. She is obedient, but the best Estella (as a cruel and enticing girl) level-headed remains Jean Simmons in David Lean version.

This is no classic, and sometimes it betrays its TV origin. Sometimes you contemplate the drastic incompatibility between the tone of the interior shot and that of exterior shot, (which happens often in BBC outings, as is the case with “Bean” or “Monty Python”) . But all in all the result is edifying with its splendid trek. Slightly above average.

It is very faithful to the book. The actors are broad, especially Pip, ages 8 and adult, the 12 year extinct isnt so kindly. Herbert is friendly, and this is around 5 hours long, and honest fabulous, touching and classic.

Over the years, television commercial breaks have lengthened, and older series in syndication have suffered for it. When you discover a rerun of your accepted TV point to, it can have anywhere from two to four minutes edited out to manufacture room for more commercials, depending on the show’s age.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Cosby Show - Season 1! Click Here

“The Cosby Point To” is no exception to this rule. During the 1984-1985 season (when the note debuted), the average length of a half-hour exhibit was twenty-four minutes with about six minutes allotted for commercials. In 2005, the average length of a half hour exhibit is twenty-one minutes. So the versions we seek umpteen times a day on TBS, WGN, Gash At Nite and various local stations have more than two minutes crop out of them.

But that’s okay, because the upcoming release of “The Cosby Show’s” inaugural season will include all the footage from the NBC airings we haven’t seen in over twenty years, legal?

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Cosby Show - Season 1! Click Here

Wrong.

In their infinite wisdom, Carsey Werner and UrbanWorks have decided to allow consumers to plop down a agreeable allotment of their hard-earned cash for the syndication edits of one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 1980s, without any warning on the packaging that these are, in fact, not the full-length episodes (even lying to us by stating in the unusual press release for the space that they were using “all novel NBC network versions, including the pilot episode, which are approximately two minutes longer than the syndicated versions”) .

Part of the appeal of TV shows on DVD is the fact that we collect to inspect our celebrated shows uncut for the first time in years. That’s why I’ve gladly shelled out money to add shows such as “Cheers,” “M*A*S*H,” “Seinfeld,” “The Simpsons” and “Taxi” to my DVD collection. I was looking forward to adding “The Cosby Demonstrate” to that list, until I found out the versions included on this four-disc situation are, in fact, versions I can glance for free multiple times a day on cable.

Would you pay money for a book with pages missing? A movie with scenes prick? An album with verses missing from songs?

Why, then, would you bewitch this? There are two minutes missing from every episode! That’s 48 minutes from the whole season - enough missing time for two episodes of “The Cosby Demonstrate.”

Please don’t rob this. Send the message to Carsey Werner (the show’s owner) and UrbanWorks (the distributor of this botched worry) that “The Cosby Present” deserves better treatment on DVD.

Well I was getting ready to sell off my Columbia House copys of The Cosby Exhibit to catch the unique season 1 station, but then I read the reviews and nearly passed out when I read the news about the episodes on the upcoming box plot being the reduce versions. The episodes on the upcoming position are about 22:00 minutes in link. After I read this I popped in one of my Columbia House copys watched “Goodbye, Mr.Fish” on the Columbia House version the episode was 24:07 minutes in link.If you bought the Columbia House DVD’s maintain them as the are the orginal network versions.I cant fill they are going to release The Cosby Exhibit this procedure, this reveal is an American Classic and it should not be release this plot!Thumbs down to this release! Thumbs up to Columbia House for doing Cosby correct!Columbia House are best of residence, but atleast the episodes are uncut.

Update-Well I read the news about the rest of the series being released uncut,Urbanworks heard the complaints and season 1 has not sold very well,so season 2 and on will derive the uncut treatment,I’ll beleive it when I gape it? remember they promised everybody that season 1 was going to be uncut and it turn out to be a enormous lie! If 2 is going to be uncut I judge they should rerelease seaon 1 also!

Nanoha A’s picks up true where Nanoha left off. In this sequel, original adversaries are introduced, and their legend is slowly revealed throughout the season. Fair as with Fate, these “poor guys” may not be as unpleasant as they seem. The mystery and intrigue in Nanoha A’s is enough to withhold you wanting to examine the next episode, and there is a site twist that I don’t reflect anyone could peer coming in the later fraction of the season!

The animation is attractive - cute girls and exciting character designs galore. The fights are well curious, too.

Although this is a “magical girl” display - it really plays out more like a Shounen action anime (as does the first season!) You can even negate by the opening that it isn’t your typical “mahou shoujo!”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Lyrical Nanoha: Complete Box Set! Click Here

Nanoha isn’t really deep or prolific, but it’s a really estimable time!

The English dub is strong - the voices fit the characters. A couple voices are weaker than others, but that’s to be expected. This present was made, after all, during Geneon’s dumb but definite demise.

Thankfully, this season was released as a 3 disc thinpack (takes up less room! All of the heavenly disc walk (reversable) and box art is included, though.

Both of my daughters 10 & 14 fancy anime. It is a complex world to secure anime that is both tame enough from adult anime and yet not so simplstic that you could categorize it with Barney. I was lucky enough to secure this series among others for my daughters. It has a mammoth Magical girl feel and while there is a hint of romance it; is not so in-depth that I need to restrict my 10 yr conventional from watching.

This was truly a hilarious movie. Anyone who loves alt. country will want to contain this. Graham Parsons meets Spinal Tap.

I watched this film on the Sundance Channel Sunday night Dec 16, 2007, and at first plan what in the hell am I doing watching this amateur parody and then as it moved along there were some improbable moments not because the film was particularly reliable but because of the archaic stock footage they dug up. The producers and the director have gone to outrageous lengths to give us scenes from the by-gone era when rockers were influenced by country music and even gospel and their products were a hash of everything and anything with lyrics only a drugged or whiskey sotted mind could arrive up with. Nevertheless, the movie based somewhat on the life and death of Gram Parsons is appealing to recognize once you accumulate passed any criteria for watching insecure camera movement, poor editing, contrived visual jokes, and cutting off the musical sound track songs unprejudiced as they gather inspiring. I understanding Kristofferson getting up on stage to receive Country Performer of the Year (valid scene) was sinister as he was blasted out of his mind and barely got through a rambling incoherent thank you speech. That was history of sorts in the making. Phil Kaufman, the man that cremated partially Gram Parson’s remains in the Calif. desert, is on camera a lot and one would believe he was talking about Gram, which approach to contemplate of it he probably was, so there was a bit of authenticity to the script, if one existed. The songs were kind of nice and I have ordered the CD with the sound track to witness how well they turn out. This bio-pic isn’t Lawrence of Arabia but light up a joint and sit help and appreciate the years 1968-73 relived by aging and nostalgic rockers and C&Ws legends. The missing person in the film was Chris Hillman (Parson’s mate in The Flying Burrito Bros) who would have lent pardon the expression gravitas to the production. Give it 3 stars for trying, and minus a couple for sloppy camera and editing. Sound is impartial OK. Bottom line: Try it you’ll like it if you are pushing 60.

Rush Hour II starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan is sort of a mixed bag. Partially a martial arts movie, but also, a comedy. This time they are in Hong Kong mixing it up with a Terrible Guy. I know it sounds outlandish, but it works. A laugh a slight, as they say. Packed with action.

Recommended for fans of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.

Gunner December 2007

Summed up, I’d say Urge Hour 2 is unbiased as edifying, if not better, than the current Urge Hour. The movie, like most Jackie Chan flicks, contains the same Mammoth ACTION, Enormous STUNTS and Tall LAUGHS that you’ve near to inquire from Jackie flicks. This one does not disappoint.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rush Hour 2! Click Here

Much like the current Run Hour, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan continue that awesome chemistry they have that made the novel such a Vast hit. This time though the tables are slightly reversed as the flick picks up in Hong Kong (apt where the new ended when they took their vacation) with Tucker being the fish out of water doing cultural and language faux paux in Hong Kong. The movie actually continues some of the storyline threads of the current referring relieve to Jackie’s (Inspector Lee’s) deceased father. The basic premise of the storyline has Jackie and Tucker (along with the U.S. Secret Service) tracking down a erroneous dollar bill ring throughout Hong Kong and the U.S. all the plot to Vegas (where else) . Tons of laughs and loads of action are left in the wake of their hasten.

Highlights: Loads of laughs as Chris Tucker tries to command Chinese and declare karaoke. Tons of AWESOME fight scenes (in particular the massage parlor scene) . Tons of HILARIOUS (albeit perhaps politically wrong) repartee with Chris Tucker. Our heroes streaking through the streets of Hong Kong. Tons of graceful women.

Things to Beware of: Chris Tucker’s mouth. While his tirades are often hilarious, some (like Roger Ebert) may obtain some the movies dialogue contaminated (racist) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rush Hour 2! Click Here

The Extinguish of Movie Bloopers: Of course being a Jackie Chan film, one of the definite highlights of his movies are the waste of movie bloopers. There are several goods ones in here, particularly a cell phone call and the broad hint at the next Run Hour flick (as was set-up in the closing scene of the movie) .

Overall, it you are into Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker or Action Comedies or the first Race Hour, you KNOW you’ll be seeing this one. You won’t be disappointed.

Highly Recommended.

You can accept this position for around $25 and for that tag it’s definitely worth it. Lawful, the first one is the best (I pick the unusual over the “Version You’ve Never Seen”, but they’re detached both very satisfactory), but the third one isn’t that poor (in fact, I reflect it’s attractive beneficial) And neither version of the prequel is pleasant, but it is sort of elegant to have two VERY different versions of the same film, and in this context, for comparing the power of editing and the how the perspective of a director can affect a movie, these discs are spicy. Proper, the second one has no merit, but what can you do? But I won’t complain. It’s noble for a laugh.

And there you have it. Everything is there. Correct, you could pick up fair pick up the unique for cheaper, but I level-headed reflect this is a solid space and a tall deal at that!

And a large open for terror newcomers as well! I’ve been a fan of anxiety movies for years and the fresh Exorcist was not only one of my first, but it became a personal common of mine. For many, it’s not only the sheer frightfulness of it that made it such a respectable film (wait on in the 70’s, anyways. Even my mom said it wasn’t as scary today as it was aid then), but it was what it made people contemplate about as well. In a world where religion tends to be the prime pains of all people, exorcism began to drift out of the minds of many as well as many ideas slow Satanism and supernatural evils. This movie brought this line of understanding wait on and in tubby force. What better design to stare these classics than to consume such a substantial collection at a reasonable tag?

Now onto separate snappily movie critiques:

The Exorcist (Unusual and Director’s Sever) : The classic that started it all. There’s not grand here that needs to be said with a few exceptions. First off, if you have not yet seen this movie, prepare yourself to be possibly timorous by some very unsightly, disgusting and sickening scenes and visuals. Second, in the Director’s Lop, there is a very graphic and bloody scene that was not included in the unique. However, this is NOT the recent version of the scene. The recent footage was not all too believable and can be found on YouTube (search “Spider Meander Scene” and inspect for the current) . And finally, again in the director’s slash, examine closely for “subliminal” images, as I’ve seen them called before. Two hard to residence ones are he cross demon face in the stove hood when Mrs. MacNeil comes home and the power flickers and in the final exorcism scene, where in the window you can very briefly recognize Karass’ mother. (5/5 stars to the current, 4.5/5 on the director’s gash upon coming to understand issues the modern scenes cause to the story’s pacing)

The Exorcist II - The Heretic: Well, first thing that should be mentioned is that this legend has some determined continuity issues with the later prequels. I’ll elaborate those differences in my reviews for those films, but the mistake involves the boy who was possessed in Merrin’s past, in Africa. In this movie, it’s a young unlit boy, (though I forget his name off the top of my head.) which is different in the prequels. Also, the anecdote itself was kind of sub-par as were the visuals. The Exorcist actually looked believable with realistic special effects, but this one is fairly silly. (2/5 stars)

The Exorcist III: I had my doubts about renting this at first, especially since I heard it wasn’t too pleasurable of a movie and especially after seeing The Heretic it didn’t seem too engaging. However, I couldn’t have been more depraved. The sage continues what happens years after the recent Exorcist in an often overlooked sequel. However, the movie does include some fantastic shocks and valid state twists. The movie is graphic in a subtle map and usually, more often than not, verbally not visually when the killer is describing his killings. Also, the visual effects during this scene are incredible. It’s hard to inform that the person who the killer is possessing’s face is changing into that of the killer’s. (4.5/5 stars)

The Exorcist - The Beginning: This movie is hard to critique, really. The chronicle is actually fairly well done, though there are many differences between this movie and, not only the originals, but in the other version of the prequel, Dominion. Also, instead of the young shadowy boy being possessed (though it DOES appear he is) it is the nurse instead and the very last scene is like a terrible ripoff of the current movie’s final scene. Also it should be celebrated that the movie is often times unprejudiced a homely bloodfest, unlike the older movies which tended to go more along subtle violence in attempts to disturb the viewers. (3/5 Stars)

Dominion - Prequel to The Exorcist: This movie is a considerable better version of the other prequel. In record, at least. Yes, the visuals ARE rather lacking. However, this is simply due to a lack of Warner Brothers trying to construct it explore better. This was clearly the raw footage that wasn’t even fixed up to gaze nice. However, there is worthy less violence, blood and gore, which is instead replaced by mighty more psychological themes that construct the tale perhaps even better than the current in it’s have arrangement. The person possessed in this film was a retarded man who was rejected by his home village. Also in this movie, Pazuzu looks remarkable different and, in my belief, powerful more ominous. (4/5 stars for abominable visuals)

Final Word: If you like scare, or even if you’re honest an avid movie goer, this collection is a must, or at least the current and the second sequel. For other very well made fear movies, I recommend Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the new one that was actually disturbing) and Rosemary’s Baby, which also have a very Satan vs. God kind of theme.

**** 4.5 stars out of 5 ****

EDIT: Touched up some spelling and scores and would also like to point out, regarding my comment that The Heretic was rather humorous, it was actually laughed at during the premiere with the audience actually throwing stuff at the camouflage. So mighty for the as-of-then biggest production set out by Warner Brothers!
